How Miki Island Transformed Learning and Team Dynamics for Go4Human, Miki Island Partner
- April 28, 2025
Over the course of three events, Miki Island has proven itself as a powerful tool for learning, team cohesion, and collective reflection. As a certified Miki Island partner, Pauline Danguy has witnessed firsthand the remarkable impact this immersive business simulation has on both teams and professionals. Here’s a look into her experience and the results she’s seen from facilitating Miki Island sessions.
Bringing HR Professionals Together: Online Learning with Impact
The first two Miki Island sessions that Pauline facilitated were online, with groups of HR managers from different organizations. Although the participants were unfamiliar with each other and not part of an established team, the experience quickly brought them together. They engaged in the simulation, and the lessons learned were immediate and profound.
Participants discovered the importance of defining roles, taking time to reflect before acting, communicating effectively, and fostering collective intelligence — even without a designated leader. These insights proved particularly valuable in the HR context, resonating directly with the professionals’ day-to-day responsibilities. Miki Island’s design enabled participants to gain these insights in a way that was not only engaging but also directly applicable to their work.
Building Team Cohesion: Overcoming Challenges and Achieving Success
The third Miki Island event was a different experience altogether. It took place during a two-day seminar with a team at Becton Dickinson. The seminar kicked off with an initial Miki Island session, where the team, under the pressure of time and faced with a complex mission, failed to survive the simulation. But rather than being discouraged by this failure, it became the starting point for a deep dive into the team’s collective functioning.
Over the course of the two days, Pauline worked with the team to explore their values, clarify their mission, and apply the four steps to building a high-performing team, as outlined in Tuckman’s model (forming, storming, norming, performing). This framework became instrumental in raising awareness of the team’s internal dynamics, clarifying roles and decision-making processes, and enhancing communication.
At the end of the seminar, the team revisited the Miki Island experience, and this time, they succeeded. Their success was not just about completing the mission but also about demonstrating tangible progress in just two days. The team was able to draw powerful parallels between their experience on Miki Island and their daily work challenges, including the need for collective performance, coordination, adaptation, and continuous learning.
The Power of Miki Island: A Tool for Learning, Cohesion, and Reflection
Whether online with HR professionals or in-person with a developing team, Miki Island has shown to be an invaluable tool that combines fun, challenge, and in-depth learning. Pauline’s experience proves that Miki Island is more than just a game — it’s a transformative experience that fosters collective intelligence, drives team cohesion, and empowers teams to reflect on and improve their internal dynamics.
By bringing together professionals from diverse backgrounds or working with teams in development, Miki Island has confirmed its effectiveness in facilitating growth, learning, and improved performance.
